This page is not what the link you clicked said it was; sorry about that! When links in the fic you're reading don't go to a real-world webpage or to a fake social media post, they send you here instead, where you get out-of-universe author's notes.
This one is a selected bibliography, mostly books and a few of the more easily-accessed articles, as well as online resources not already directly linked to in the fic. Lots of things are missing - I have't included any language-learning resources, any treatments of slave economies, or really anything about antiquity or Islamic faith and practice. If you're starting from scratch, I'd suggest the local library. Checking out quran.com would not go amiss; the Encyclopedia Iranica (iranicaonline.org) is an English-language free online resource that you might consider looking at for more on the history of the Persian world, which includes Iran-u-Turan (the Timurid Empire) and Delhi sultanate; Rekhta (rekhta.org) has many Urdu poems and a poetic dictionary of Hindustani; if you're interested in Marius' outlook and the Roman institution of slavery, I'd recommend Mouritsen's The Freedman in the Roman World and Harper's Slavery in the Late Roman World, AD 275-425. The latter postdates Marius' human lifespan but is focused particularly on Roman Christian slavery and the racialization thereof in ways that may be of interest.
If you're looking for a particular resource and haven't been able to find it, leave a comment over on AO3 and I'd be glad to help out if I can!
